HILLEL STUDENT LIFE

Hillel Student Life at the University of Connecticut operates as a student organization at the University of Connecticut and receives funding from the University. Hillel Student Life programs fun and engaging activities and events for all denominations of Jews on campus. Also, Hillel Student Life actively programs with a diverse group of other student groups at UConn. Hillel Student Life is a place where everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing you at a future program.  For more information please email info@uconnhillel.org

JEWS IN GREEK LIFE

Jews in Greek Life (JIGL), is one of UConn Hillel's newest Student Organizations.  The purpose of JIGL is to create social, religious, and community service programs for all Jews in Greek Life. JIGL plans and organizes events where Jewish members, of all Greek organizations, have an opportunity to participate in Jewish events within a Greek context. JIGL will also be providing, for Jewish members living in Greek houses, items such as menorahs or kosher for Passover food to make it easier for them to celebrate holidays. In the future we will be bringing in former Jewish Greeks to come speak to the Greek community on issues of leadership, activism and career development. For more information please contact greek@uconnhillel.org.

FIRST YEAR STUDENTS @ HILLEL

UConn Hillel’s FYSH (First Year Students @ Hillel) program is designed to help incoming freshman with the sometimes overwhelming transition from high school to college life.  Each freshman (FYSH) is given an upper classmen mentor, a student highly involved with not only Hillel, but other student groups and organizations on campus, ranging from Honors, to Greek Life, to the Pre-med Society.  Each mentor contacts their FYSHies over the summer, welcoming them to campus, inviting them to UConn Hillel’s Welcome Back BBQ, and giving them an idea of what they can expect from the FYSH program.

In the fall 2009 semester we have ten events planned just with FYSH in mind.  From cheering on the UConn men’s soccer team, to making your own hummus, to playing volleyball with other FYSHies and their mentors, we have a semester full of fun planned.  And that is all on top of UConn Hillel’s regularly scheduled (and awesome) programming!

If you are an incoming freshman who wants more information on the FYSH program, or would like to get more involved with UConn Hillel, please contact Eric Weinstein, at eric.l.weinstein@gmail.com.  We are looking forward to an incredible FYSHy fall semester, and hope you are too!
